Use this free checklist to find out if yours qualifies. 

 Answer  YES or NO to each question:

  1. Is your property zoned residential or rural?

  2. Is the proposed granny flat 70m² or under (including deck)?

  3. Is the granny flat on the same title as the main home?

  4. Will the granny flat be a permanent structure (not on wheels)?

  5. Is your property connected to reticulated water and wastewater — or do you have an approved alternative?

  6. Is your section free from known flood, landslip, or natural hazard overlays?

  7. Are you planning to use a Licensed Building Practitioner (LBP) for the structural work?

  8. Are you prepared to notify your council via a Project Information Memorandum (PIM)?

  9. Is your property free from any heritage or special character overlays that may restrict building?

  10. Is the granny flat intended as a residential dwelling (not commercial use)?
